KES Newsletter August 18, 2022
August 18, 2022
Dear KES families,
I hope this message finds you well. I can’t believe how quickly the days are flying by so I want to share a bit of information with you in advance of the start of the school year. As you saw in the placement letter which came home a few weeks ago, we were waiting on current guidance to determine our plan for families entering the school this year in terms of safety and covid protocols. I am pleased to share that we will be able to hold our “sneak a peek” next week at all grade levels.
The schedule is as follows on Friday, August 26th:
11:00-11:30 Grade 2
12:30-1:00 Grade 1
1:30-2:00 Pre K
2:30-3:00 Grade K
Please note that the teachers have a very full day, so we ask that you adhere to the schedule as noted above. Sneak a peek is an opportunity for you and your child to visit KES and to meet the teachers and classmates. Most teachers have not yet had the opportunity to get into their classrooms to set up due to cleaning following summer programming, so we ask for your kind understanding if the spaces are not fully set up when you visit.
I also want to assure you that we continue to take safety and security in our building seriously, and as such we will have protocols to follow this year whenever visitors arrive when school is in session. When our Pre K and K families arrive for additional screenings on August 29 and 30 for example, we will be requiring a picture ID from parents or family members accompanying their student before allowing entry into KES for the screening. In addition, we will require a picture ID to be scanned prior to entering the building for all volunteers, substitutes and visitors this year as well, which is simply a return to our pre pandemic practices.
As a reminder, it is critical that when reporting absences for any day during the school year, you do this on line using the following link: KES Absence Reporting Form. Although emailing your child’s teacher is appreciated, using the absence reporting form is most important. If you do not use this reporting format, you will receive a call from the school following up on your child’s absence. If you have more than one child who will be out, please complete an entry for each child.
You will have received an automatic “re-registration” notification from our student information system, PowerSchool. This is sent to all parents, even those who registered students for the first time for the 22-23 school year. This is done to ensure that parents/caregivers review the information in the system and ensure we have the most up to date phone numbers, email addresses and emergency contact information. Also, each year parents have to “reset” their child’s permission to have their picture published on the web and/or through media.
Dates to remember:
The first day of school for grades one & two is Monday, August 29th.
Kindergarten & Pre K screenings have been individually scheduled for August 29 & 30.
The first day of school for Pre K & Kindergarten is Wednesday, August 31st.
There is no school on Friday, September 2nd or Monday, September, 5th.
Enjoy these last days of summer break!
Yours in education,
